US Updates Fact Sheet on India Trade Deal

(MENAFN) The White House has revised its fact sheet regarding the recently announced trade deal with India, according to reports. The original version of the document was released on Monday.

The updated statement incorporates three major adjustments after New Delhi reportedly raised concerns about wording and references that had not been mutually agreed upon. The revisions include the removal of a reference to “certain pulses” from the initial text, which had indicated that India would cut or eliminate tariffs on agricultural goods.

India, being the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses, viewed the original wording as potentially favoring US exports. New Delhi’s insistence on excluding dairy and other agricultural products has long been a sticking point in trade negotiations with Washington, as farming remains a politically sensitive sector in both countries.

According to reports, the deletion of pulses from the fact sheet is seen as a successful concession by India in shaping the terms of the deal.
